Major products of the Southwest
Oil
In Texas, oil is one of the largest industries. Oil in the land and in the Gulf of Mexico help supply the United States. The oil boom in Texas began in the 1900's and lasted until the 1940's. It helped to open up many other industries in the region as well.
Fish/Shellfish
Crabs, oysters, shrimp, and lobster are all common shellfish caught off the eastern coast of Texas. In addition several types of fish are caught in the Gulf of Mexico. Texas along with the other states along the Gulf coast bring in a large portion of the seafood in the United States.
Tourism
Tourism is probably the biggest industry in Arizona and New Mexico. Native American and natural attractions along with the warm weather bring thousands of people to these states every year. Places such as the deserts, the sand dunes, and the Grand Canyon are some of the many natural attractions.
